World Changer Sponsors Make Education Affordable for Regent Students
Regent University’s motto, Christian Leadership to Change the World, comes to life through the work of its graduates. A fundraising initiative, specific to this mission, is making the experience more affordable for those who are studying to become world changers. Dollars donated directly support students in the form of tuition assistance, merit awards and more.
“Financial support of Regent University empowers and equips students to impact their communities, our nation and the world, transforming countless lives in the name of Jesus Christ,” said Regent’s founder, chancellor and CEO, Dr. M.G. “Pat” Robertson.
Regent’s World Changer initiative is raising money to fund scholarships, grants and other financial aid. Regent’s Office of Advancement raised $50,000 toward the initiative in just one day this past fall, and these funds are already helping Regent students succeed.
“Because of my disability and the multiple medical expenses associated with it, it has always been financially tight for my family and me,” said Brandon Vera, ’16 (College of Arts & Sciences). “Without my scholarship, I would have needed to take out a loan and increase my already overwhelming debt.”
Vera lives with Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita. The condition causes stiffness in his muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments and skin. He’s pursuing a degree in Communications, and financial aid from Regent helps him balance the cost of his education with medical expenses. He’d like to take his education to its terminal degree, a Ph.D.
“I really want to integrate my education with my life experience to solve problems from unique standpoints,” said Vera. “I want to be able to visually communicate messages that will empower, provoke thought and create positive change. With their support and investment, donors will allow me to further my education.”
Regent is reminding donors of the impact they are having on Vera’s and other students’ lives. A campaign featuring testimonies from Vera and others is on Regent’s website as the deadline to make tax-deductible donations for 2015 approaches. Online donations must be submitted by 2 p.m. on December 31. Mailed donations should be postmarked by December 31.
