University Officials Monitoring Hurricane Florence

Regent University Emergency Response Committee members are closely monitoring the projected path of Hurricane Florence as it approaches the United States.

As of 10 a.m. on September 10, 2018, Hurricane Florence is projected to make landfall somewhere on the East Coast later this week, possibly in southeastern North Carolina. Potential impacts on the Hampton Roads area are unclear. No storm watches or warnings have been posted for Virginia at this time.

Students living in campus housing will receive instructions on hurricane preparedness specific to their residential area. The university’s Emergency Response Committee is maintaining close communication with regional emergency management officials. Grounds and facilities personnel will be making preliminary preparations in the event that strong winds and heavy rain impact Virginia Beach later this week. Regent officials encourage students to make prior arrangements in the event of power outages or flooding in this or any future inclement weather situation.

Any changes regarding the university’s operating schedule and storm preparation for Regent students and employees will be posted to regent.edu and Regent’s social media channels (Facebook, and Twitter) as needed.

Updates to the operating schedule will also be distributed through the Regent Alert system and be available on the Regent Inclement Weather hotline at 757.352.4777.

Check the National Weather Service for updates on Hurricane Florence.

All students, faculty and staff in the Virginia Beach area are encouraged to review hurricane preparedness information. Please check back for potential updates by 5 p.m. this evening.
