Tidewater Stage Calls for Talent in Upcoming Comedic and Musical Season
Whether you’re watching the musical adaptation of a couple’s evolving marriage, or a former GI trying to shake-off an old war hero, this season’s lineup on Tidewater Stage, Regent University’s professional theatre company, is a comedic treat for theatergoers in Hampton Roads.
“I’m so excited about a third season with Tidewater Stage,” said Dr. Eric Harrell, producing artistic director of Tidewater Stage and associate professor in Regent’s School of Communication & the Arts. “When we first introduced the company, it was such a big step for the university to launch a professional theatre company; that really is a milestone, and it’s been a very exciting journey.”
On Saturday, April 4 from 2-5 p.m., Tidewater Stage will hold auditions for Tom Jone’s two-person musical, I do! I do! and Larry Shue’s The Nerd.
Actors must request an appointment via email to tidewaterstage@regent.edu with information including the actor’s name and phone number. Participants will be asked to perform a monologue – up to 1.5 minutes – an additional 30 seconds will be provided for singers auditioning for I do! I do! Singers must provide their own music.

“These are two shows that are just pure fun,” said Harrell, who explained that a strong comedic timing is imperative for the roles in these shows.
I do, I do! (June 19-21, 26-28) follows the lives of Michael and Agnes, a newly married couple, into their transitioning roles as father and mother, and eventual empty-nesters.
“It’s very dynamic to watch two humans age and their marriage evolve stage. It’s very funny, but it also has truth to it,” said Harrell.
The Nerd (July 31, Aug. 1-2, 7-9) takes on the story of William Cubbert and his unwanted houseguest, Rick Steadman, an unsung Vietnam War hero who saved Cubbert’s life on the battlefield.
“It’s such a delightful comedy, and in my opinion it’s one of the funniest plays in the theater,” said Harrell. “We’re looking for really skilled comedians who are strong actors who can drive this production home as well.”
