The Robertson School of Government Honors General John Ashcroft with the Distinguished Statesman Award
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (Jan. 9, 2023) – The Robertson School of Government has selected General John Ashcroft as a recipient in its Distinguished Statesman Award Series—an honor that recognizes those who have sacrificially enhanced our country through their extraordinary contribution to public service.
General Ashcroft paved his historic path in public service after earning an A.B. from Yale University and Juris Doctor from the University of Chicago Law School. He served as the Missouri State Auditor, followed by two terms as Missouri’s Attorney General, two terms as Missouri’s Governor, and one term as a U.S. Senator from Missouri. He was then nominated by George W. Bush to serve as U.S. Attorney General.
“The Honorable John Ashcroft has committed his life to serving our country while protecting and preserving the lives of the American people,” said the Hon. Michele Bachmann, Dean of the Robertson School of Government. “His defense of traditional values, anti-terror measures, and principled efforts to maintain national security make him a significant contributor in the success of the nation.”
General Ashcroft, a Distinguished Professor in the schools of Law and Government at Regent University, joins the Honorable Michael R. Pompeo, who was the inaugural recipient of the Regent University Robertson School of Government’s Distinguished Statesman Award in early 2022.
The Distinguished Statesman Series seeks to celebrate truly extraordinary heroes: current or recent men and women of character and honor who have served in government in the pattern of America’s earliest brilliant statesmen.
