Surprising Scholars Weekend Dean’s Scholarship Award Winner with Full Ride

Regent University’s undergraduate admissions team delivered exciting news via video conference to an incoming freshman and her family Thursday, March 2. With giant check in hand, the team cheered as they showed Scholar’s Weekend Deans Scholarship recipient Morganne Oliver her ticket to a full-ride at Regent covering tuition and housing.

“Short of us being on your front door and throwing confetti, we wanted to join the team to tell you how blessed we are to have you as part of the Regent family, and we’re excited about what that’s going to mean for you and your family, and ultimately, what amazing things you’re going to do in our community,” said Bob Habib, senior director of traditional admissions.

Habib said Oliver was chosen from a competitive selection of prospective students who visited Regent in February for Scholars Weekend. Oliver submitted an excellent academic profile, but it was her relational skills and propensity to do great things as a leader that separated her from the crowd.

“I’ve spoken with the dean,” said Habib to Oliver on the teleconference. “You had an interview with him, and he spoke with several other candidates. He was so appreciative of all of our scholars, having the opportunity to speak with each of them individually, but he was particularly impressed, and in his words, ‘totally blown away’ by his interaction with you, Morganne. Hands-down, he knew you were a student we wanted at Regent, and we think you’re going to be a Christian leader who will go out there and change the world.”

Oliver, a home-schooled senior, is from Springfield, Virginia. She is a Persuasive National Champion with the National Christian Forensics and Communications Association. She plans to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Communication. She is looking forward to attending Regent in the fall to begin a journey of academic and spiritual growth.

“The main things that really stood out to me about Regent went beyond campus,” said Oliver. “It was the students, seeing the mission statement embodied in everything that was done. I really appreciated and found a place in a group of people I wanted to be like amongst the students, despite the fact Regent has a beautiful campus, great academics, and all of the statistics.”
