Regent University’s School of Education Launches Peer Mentoring & Dissertation Coaching Program
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (October 19, 2021) – The Regent University School of Education will launch a Peer Mentoring & Dissertation Coaching Program on October 25, 2021, to support first-year master’s and post-master’s students. This program aims to support School of Education students as they learn to balance family, work and academic life.
“We know that our students juggle a lot of responsibilities, and we want to provide a tangible expression of our belief in them and a practical tool to help them meet their educational objectives,” said Kurt Kreassig, dean of the School of Education at Regent University. “Being mentored by another can have a profound positive influence—no matter your background, age or goals. I am excited to witness the growth in both the mentee and mentor.”
Fourteen peer mentors and dissertation coaches have volunteered to participate in this program. They represent seasoned students who have already found strategies for success and can also provide encouragement and a listening ear.
Mentors are trained to answer basic questions about the program, help learners become acclimated to the learning objectives in the School of Education, and offer prayer support throughout the learning process.
Dissertation coaches will support dissertation students as they embark on their research journey. The coaches will provide prayer support, organizational strategies for research and writing, feedback on the dissertation process, advice for finishing the dissertation process, and social-emotional support in the form of encouragement and accountability.
Both mentors and mentees will evaluate the program periodically through surveys to ensure satisfaction and program effectiveness.
All new graduate students in the School of Education are eligible to apply for mentoring and coaching. Current students should submit a Peer Mentoring Program Application through the MyRegent portal.
