Regent’s School of Law Faculty, Fellow, & Clerkship Announcements with Record-Breaking News & Achievements

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (February 28, 2022) – Regent University School of Law’s 2021-2022 Academic Year is proving to be a banner year. Six months in, the school has already celebrated record-breaking rankings, launched new programs and initiatives, and welcomed new leaders to its list of prestigious faculty and staff. 

“When I think about what we’ve accomplished so far this academic year, I’m extremely pleased but not surprised,” said Mark Martin, dean of the Regent University School of Law. “Everything we do here underscores our deep commitment to providing world-class legal education and exemplary real-world training.”

Regent Alumna Sandra Alcaide Appointed Assistant Professor for Experiential Learning Program 

Sandra Alcaide, J.D. (LAW ’16) was recently appointed as an assistant professor in Regent Law’s Experiential Learning program, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to her new role. As a former assistant district attorney at the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office in New York City, she specialized in prosecuting domestic violence, child abuse, and sexual crimes cases. She also served as a staff attorney with the Campus Advocates project at Sanctuary for Families, representing domestic violence victims in family court and complainants in Title IX cases. Before practicing law, Alcaide was a middle school teacher through Teach for America. 

Alcaide’s primary role will be to ensure that students are practice-ready when they graduate. Through experiential learning and professional formation opportunities, Regent Law combines traditional legal study with hands-on training and ethical formation in the context of a Christian worldview. Graduates enter the legal field as fully integrated lawyers with a thorough knowledge of the law, skills to put their ability to use, and the personal wellness necessary to succeed.  

Regent Alumna Ilinka Robinson Named Regent Law Clinic Housing Fellow 

Ilinka Robinson, J.D. (LAW ’20) was recently selected for Regent Law Clinic’s full-time housing fellow position. She worked as a paralegal before attending law school and has experience in special education law, immigration law, and complex business litigation.  

The Regent Law Clinic, opened in 2019, provides pro bono legal aid to the Hampton Roads community. Robinson’s area of focus will assist tenants in Norfolk, Virginia, with applying for rent relief, landlord negotiations to avoid evictions, and assisting clients in court with defenses to eviction. 

The need for a housing fellow presented itself after the law clinic expanded after responding to U.S. Attorney General Merrick B. Garland’s appeal, urging members of the legal community to help “address the looming housing and evictions crisis” related to the pandemic. Read more about the clinic’s expansion here.  

After meeting with Regent Law faculty and students virtually, along with 98 other law schools, officials from the White House, the Department of Justice, and the Treasury Department recognized Regent Law and the other schools for responding to the attorney general’s call to action. Regent Law Touts Record-Breaking Employment & Ranks Among Top Schools for Judicial Clerkships  

Regent Law has a national and international network of accomplished alumni in the legal profession, including judges and justices, legislators, in-house counsel of major corporations, and, most importantly, well-trained lawyers who are impacting the world. Regent’s law students have been particularly successful in securing highly competitive judicial clerkships, ranking in the top 11 percent of all law schools for graduates obtaining judicial clerkships.  

Recently Secured Judicial Clerkships include the following:  

• Anna Edwards (LAW ‘22) will serve as a law clerk for the Honorable Aileen M. Cannon of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida during the 2022-2023 term and then for the Honorable Paul B. Matey of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit during the 2024-2025 term. 
• Nathan Moelker (LAW ‘22) will serve as a law clerk for Chief Justice Tom Parker of the Alabama Supreme Court for the 2022-23 term.  
• Dalton Nichols (LAW ‘22) will serve as a law clerk for the Honorable Damon Leichty of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana for the 2022-23 term.  
• Rich Osborne (LAW ‘22) will be clerking for the Honorable Eric G. Bruggink for the U.S. Court of Federal Claims for the 2022-23 term.  
• Diamond Royster (LAW ‘22) will serve as a law clerk for the Honorable Cleo Powell of the Supreme Court of Virginia for the 2022-23 term.  
• Tyler Gustafson (LAW ‘23) will serve as a law clerk for the Honorable Alice M. Batchelder of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit during the 2023-24 term.  

• In Spring 2021, Regent Law announced the highest employment percentage in the school’s history at 96 percent, as recognized by the National Association for Law Placement 10-month employment calculation. Graduates within that timeframe acquired positions at top law firms and federal and state courts and other federal departments.
