Regent’s School of Business & Leadership Announces a New Ph.D. Comprehensive Exam and Dissertation Process
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (December 10, 2020) – Regent University’s School of Business & Leadership (SBL) is pleased to announce that, beginning Fall 2022, its Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership program will implement an innovative comprehensive exam and dissertation process. Instead of timed comprehensive exams, SBL will utilize essays within the comprehensive exam coursework. The comprehensive exam essays will relate to the program outcomes of teaching, leading, and consulting. The final outcome, research, will be assessed through chapter 1 of students’ dissertation.
Students beginning their doctoral studies Spring 2021 will be entering their comprehensive exams and dissertation stage around Fall 2022 and will benefit from these changes.
“We have been looking at cutting-edge ways to ensure a more efficient and streamlined process through which our Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership students can complete their degrees, and this is it!” said Dr. Doris Gomez, SBL dean. “These changes will enable our doctoral students to swiftly and successfully move through their final phase of a rigorous doctoral journey and complete what God has asked of them. It is our joy to create the conditions to support our students to that end.”
In its new structure, rather than beginning the dissertation after comprehensive exams, SBL’s Ph.D. students will now begin their dissertation work as part of the comprehensive exams. The entire dissertation (chapters 2-5) may then be completed in just one to two semesters following the comprehensive exam semester. Throughout the process, faculty members will provide feedback and guidance for successful dissertation completion.
The Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership is designed to help leaders influence and invigorate organizations globally as scholars, teachers, consultants, and business professionals. This research-based terminal degree, offered online with residency requirements, is taught from a Christian worldview. Explore dissertation abstracts.
