“Marlowe’s contribution to the ‘new’ English Renaissance dramaturgy was significant,” said Dr. Gillette Elvgren, School of Communication & the Arts emeritus professor and director for the production. “His artful use of the more flexible iambic pentameter, his creation of the hero/protagonist, his serving as the artistic bridge out of the turgid medieval morality plays, all resulted in his becoming the most popular playwright of his day.”
The play is based on the life and myth of the German legend, Dr. John Faustus, who was said to have miraculous powers.
“And so, the Regent University Theatre Department is proud to present the story of a man who struggles with the verity, existence and ultimate meaning of the human soul,” said Elvgren.
