Regent University School of Law’s Price Media Team Qualifies for International Moot Court Competition in Oxford, England
Regent University School of Law’s (LAW) Price Media Moot Court Team is keeping up with the arguments of its predecessors – on Friday, January 27, the team once again advanced to the international rounds in Oxford England.
The team competed at the Americas Region of the Price Media tournament in New York City, New York, where LAW students Pamela Dodge (’17), Courtney Marasigan (’17), and Kate Sawyer (’17), coached by LAW professor Jeffrey Brauch, took home the second-best brief in the Western Hemisphere.
“I am deeply proud of Pam, Courtney, and Kate,” said Brauch. “They displayed tireless preparation at home and consistent excellence during the tournament. They brought honor to Regent and to Jesus Christ. I can’t wait to see what they will next achieve as they head to Oxford and compete for the world championship!”
The team will continue to prepare for the international rounds in April 2017. LAW dean, Michael Hernandez, explained that skills boards such as Moot Court, Trial and Alternative Dispute Resolution are “vital” to Regent’s law training.
“I have been privileged to use the skills I developed as a litigator in private practice to help build the moot court program at Regent Law. Coaching teams is one of the most enjoyable aspects of being a faculty member — It combines teaching and mentoring, while providing what is arguably the most valuable learning experience for students,” said Hernandez. “As Dean, I do not have as much time to devote to coaching as I did previously, but it is immeasurably rewarding to continue to work closely with the students, who are great representatives of our school.”
Over the weekend, Hernandez coached the LAW team which competed at the Andrews Kurth National Invitational Championship. LAW students Lucille Wall (’17), Noah DiPasquale (’17), and Trayce Hockstad (’17) represented Regent as among the top 16 moot court programs in the nation.
DiPasquale said his favorite part of the competition was interacting with Hernandez and working with his team to represent Regent and Christ “with excellence.”
“We had a fantastic time growing together as a team as we prepared for this competition, and we gave our best performance this past weekend in Houston,” said DiPasquale. “It was an exhilarating experience, and I am so glad that we have the opportunity to be involved in activities like this here at Regent.”
