Regent Law New Professor Max Hare Dedicated to Preparing Students for Bar Exam

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (February 9, 2022) – Regent University School of Law is pleased to welcome Professor Thornton “Max” Hare to its faculty. Professor Hare will serve as a full-time professor devoted to helping Regent Law students prepare for taking the bar exam.

“The Regent University School of Law is honored to have Professor Hare join our ranks. He is extremely gifted and is passionate about strengthening our bar prep program and working one-on-one with students. This hire reflects our unwavering commitment to every student that Regent Law will equip them to pass the bar exam upon graduation,” said Regent Law Dean Mark Martin.

About Professor Max Hare

Hare graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2019 and was working as a national director at Themis Bar Review prior to joining Regent University School of Law at the beginning of January 2022. While working at Themis Bar Review, among other things, Hare developed systems for analyzing student data to identify students who would benefit from further remediation as well as corresponding remediation techniques. He also provided training for essay writing, increasing accuracy and speed for Multistate Bar Exam (MBE) questions, and learning the law for bar exam subjects and how such law applies to different fact patterns.

“Regent Law already has a positive reputation for exceeding expectations on the bar exam based on median undergraduate GPAs and LSAT scores. Now, we are building on that,” said Hare. He added that Regent Law teaches students the skills they need to pass the bar beginning their first week of class. Students must also take a class midway through their J.D. program to assess their knowledge and skills in core topics. “Through this system, we can identify whether students are on track, assist those who are falling behind and need extra resources, or generally decrease the difficulty of the process for all students,” Hare said.

Regent University School of Law – Bar Prep Program

Regent Law’s J.D. program focuses on developing excellent legal analysis and legal writing skills, mastering black-letter law, and equipping students with a Christian worldview and ethical-decision making framework. Starting the first semester of law school, Regent Law students have access to bar prep study aids through Regent’s relationship with Themis Bar Review, one of the leading bar prep companies in the nation, and begin practicing actual bar exam questions.

Additionally, Regent Law requires that every student take the core classes tested on every bar exam and a bar prep course during their fourth semester of law school. In this class, students review the law on key subjects, practice applying the law, and then take a mini bar exam that mimics the MBE. Students also have the option of taking elective credits for additional bar exam preparation and attending panels on passing the bar exam. During bar prep, each graduate is assigned a faculty mentor to encourage them while they study.

Regent Law – Bar Prep Outcomes

Since 1986, Regent Law has strived to provide students with a stellar bar prep training curriculum. In 2021, Regent Law ranked 55th best in the nation with a first-time bar passage rate of 90.62% for the class of 2020. And in 2019, Regent’s School of Law was ranked 20th in the nation for Ultimate Bar Passage, with over 97% of graduates passing the bar exam within two years of graduation. It also earned the highest overall bar passage rate of all Virginia law schools in both July 2017 and February 2018.
