‘God is Here’: Regent University Experiences Outpouring of Spiritual Renewal
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (Feb. 27, 2023) – As revival moves to college campuses across the nation, Regent University students, faculty, and staff are experiencing a miraculous move of God. The Holy Spirit is stirring hearts, prompting repentance, and pouring out spiritual renewal on the Regent University campus and surrounding community.
“I think there’s a move of God that’s happening; there’s a revival that’s happening, and I wanted to be in the presence of God,” Regent University student Shameka White told CBN News. “I wanted to just be among believers. And we need it in the climate of the world today.”
“It doesn’t matter the age, from the youngest person to the oldest person, God wants to move in this time,” shared Frank Ehbrecht, another Regent student. “And when the world is at its darkest that’s when the light shines the brightest.”
Regent’s Director of Campus Ministries Dr. Jeff Gossmann visited the Asbury revival, along with three others from Regent, and has witnessed a similar outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Regent. “God is making known his claim on GenZ. This generation has suffered so much loss due to the pandemic. This current outpouring is like their coming-of-age party, where Jesus says to them, ‘I see you. Welcome to the table.’”
“Regent University is making space for students to worship and pray. We’re celebrating what God is doing among GenZ,” Gossmann said.
Dr. John-Paul Lotz, nephew of Anne Graham Lotz and associate professor at the Regent University School of Divinity, attended the Asbury revival. Reflecting on the atmosphere at Asbury, he noted “no leader, no rival, no envy, no pride, all humility, meekness, gentle hearts, tender students serving thousands of curious visitors in their love for mercy without knowing they are doing so! It’s legit.”
He added, “GenZ is graciously allowing us to peek in on this surprising work of God as they serve us like priests, unconsciously dragging us into the presence of the Lord through young, redeemed, romantic hearts for God. Christ is being honored, God is being glorified, the Spirit is at liberty.”
Regent students, faculty, and staff have been gathering for spontaneous worship and unscripted prayer at Regent’s Virginia Beach campus. These gatherings – some up to six hours long – have been marked by humble worship, teaching of scripture, prayer, repentance, and spiritual renewal.
“This I believe is for Generation Z, for this generation coming up now,” shared Dr. Corne Bekker, Dean of the Regent University School of Divinity. “This is their moment where God is getting a hold of their hearts. Their eyes are opening, and they are surrendering their lives to Christ.”
He continued, “The time is now; the kingdom of God is here. What should be our response? Repent and believe in the Good News.”
