CAS Announces New RSN to BSN Program
Registered nurses (RN) who want to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) can now enroll in Regent University’s new RN to BSN online degree program. The new BSN is part of a push to offer health care education to students who want the benefits of a Regent learning experience. The College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) is enrolling students now in the BSN degree program to begin classes in fall 2015.
One distinct feature of this major is the clear alignment with the mission of CAS in terms of Christian leadership, cultural change and global involvement and outreach,” said Dr. Robert Stewart, CAS professor.
The new concentration is designed for nurses who have an associate’s degree with an RN license and who want to complete a bachelor’s degree to advance their career and knowledge. Career opportunities for nurses continue to grow, and more health care institutions prefer nurses with BSN degrees.
“For the Christian, a nursing career offers some of the greatest opportunities to serve the world and encourage human flourishing in almost any culture on the planet,” said Stewart.
BSN graduates will be able to assess and develop plans, lead, administer and apply best nursing practices in different cultures, and demonstrate mastery of communication skills.
Seven courses are being added to CAS Department of Natural Science and Mathematics selections. The new courses will focus on transitioning to professional nursing, pathophysiology, professional health assessment, leadership and management, evidence-based nursing research and technology, and community and public health strategies.
Professors examined course requirements at several public, Christian and out-of-state online institutions to develop the curriculum. The program will be directed by a new full time faculty member, Dr. Catherine Abramson, who holds a Doctorate of Nursing Practice.
