Rachel Stephens, Psy.D.

Bio

For Dr. Rachel Stephens, teaching has been a way of life. From instructing piano students and dreaming of being a music teacher as a teenager, to her current position as Associate Professor for the School of Psychology & Counseling, Stephens has always had a passion for investing in other people. While attending college at Indiana Wesleyan University, this passion led to the realization that she would be a far better mental health professional than choir teacher, prompting her decision to apply to Regent’s Psy.D. program. She is incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have learned in an integrative setting, where space was provided to wrestle with the deep issues of theology, worldview and philosophy while also developing professional skills as a psychologist. She considers it an honor to now be back at Regent in a faculty role, and hopes to do her part to enrich the training experience provided at Regent.

Clinically, Stephens has developed expertise in working with college populations, especially those experiencing developmental trauma and abuse. She completed an APA-accredited internship at the University of Virginia’s Counseling and Psychological Services, followed by a postdoctoral residency at University Counseling Services through Virginia Commonwealth University. In addition to her experience in trauma recovery, she also has clinical interests in multiculturalism, attachment, spirituality and gender dynamics. Outside of work, Stephens enjoys sewing, music, good food and time with her family.
