In addition to the top-tier coursework found in our standard J.D. program, Regent’s J.D. Honors Program provides exclusive experiences to create a rigorous and engaging learning environment, ensuring each law honors student receives the highest level of academic and professional preparation.

Who is Eligible for J.D. Honors?

The J.D. Honors Program is for select entering students and first year law students who have performed near the top of their first-year law school class. Early applications are encouraged, as spots within the program are limited. For entering students, admission is based on three elements: LSAT score(s), cumulative undergraduate GPA, and overall academic record. At Regent Law, admitted applicants with at least a 160 LSAT and a 3.7 cumulative GPA are automatically admitted to the law honors program. However, those with a 157 LSAT or higher and stronger academic indicators may also be considered.

Students who have completed the first year of their J.D. program may also enter the law honors program. These first year law students must finish in the top 25% of their class at the end of their first year and maintain a law school GPA of 3.2 throughout their program.

What Does the Honors Program Entail?

Students in Regent’s J.D. Honors Program enjoy various exclusive benefits designed to prepare them to be industry-leading lawyers. Law honors program class sizes are smaller than those at most law schools, creating an environment of in-depth engagement between faculty and students.

The program also offers specialized courses available only to law honors students. Participants take select classes, such as the honors-only Foundations of Law or other honors-only courses like Torts, Contracts, Property, or Civil Procedure, with other high-performing students. Upper-level courses for participants are also offered in honors-only sections for a more personalized and intensive learning experience. Additionally, law honors students receive greater flexibility in their curriculum through fewer required courses during the second and third years of their program.

The J.D. Honors Program seeks to equip students for professional success. Through Regent Law’s Career Services and student resources, combined with the engaging programming of the Honors Program, the Honors Classes of 2017–2020 boast a 100% bar passage rate, with 51% of graduates securing competitive judicial clerkships.

Another perk of the law honors program is the unique experiences exclusively for honors students. Throughout their degree, law honors students have the opportunity to meet and learn from distinguished guest speakers. Prominent speakers previously hosted by the J.D. Honors Program include Elena Kagan (Supreme Court Associate Justice), John Ashcroft (former U.S. Attorney General), Vern Clark (retired U.S. Admiral), and Leslie H. Southwick (Federal Judge, U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals). Students can also gain practical experience beyond the classroom by competing in Regent Law’s award-winning Moot Court teams, participating in externships and internships with the Center for Global Justice®, and getting involved with The Center for Advocacy and the American Center for Law and Justice.
