Regent University Helps Local Businesses Recover from COVID-19 Shutdown

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (September 17, 2020) – To support small businesses in the Hampton Roads region, Regent University faculty and business partners are offering virtual programs to help small businesses recover from the effects of the COVID-19 shutdown.

According to a recent report in The Virginian-Pilot, more than 400 businesses in Hampton Roads have permanently closed since March 1. This trend is projected to continue as other businesses struggle to adjust to a new environment. Regent faculty in the College of Arts & Sciences have come together to serve local businesses by offering complimentary training and coaching tips to help businesses recover from the effects of the COVID-19 shutdown.

“We were aware of the devastating impact on business profitability due to the restrictions levied on businesses because of the pandemic,” said Dr. Joseph Bucci, department chair for undergraduate business programs at Regent. “After connecting with our network of regional business leaders, we developed solutions to help business owners as they work to recover.”

In collaboration with subject-matter experts and business partners, Regent University faculty have developed a series of mini-seminars exploring key topics raised by business owners, with question and answer sessions to follow. Virtual programs with key takeaways are scheduled via Zoom, with opportunities for personal follow-up and more in-depth discussion.

Program topics include:

  • Building a Business Worth Building
  • Assessing Your Current Position with a SWOT Analysis
  • No Cost Marketing Strategies
  • Better Understand Your Target Market Through Segmentation
  • Social Media Marketing: General Trends Across Major Platforms
  • Winning at the Game of Google
  • Other marketing related topics

“We are excited to partner with local businesses to provide the training and support they need to bounce back,” said Dr. Olga Moseley, professor of marketing at Regent University. “Being able to serve our community during these difficult times is a great privilege and honor. We’re very grateful for this opportunity.”
