Brownie Points Opens in Regent University’s Studio Theatre
Save Kumbaya and s’mores for another campfire. Regent University Theatre’s Brownie Points is no ordinary camping trip. Scout’s honor.
Brownie Points, which follows the lives of five very different mothers, their perspectives and their life experiences on a camping trip in Atlanta, Georgia, opens on Regent’s Studio Theatre stage Friday, Sept. 11, and continues Sept. 12-13 and 18-20.
Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. with Saturday-Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m.

“We need this story,” said director and assistant professor in Regent’s School of Communication & the Arts, Dr. Marianne Savell. “I’ve wanted to direct this story for a few years now, and the timing couldn’t be better.”
The show, written by Janece Shafffer, explores conversations about race and stereotypes, and is loosely based from true events, where a group of campers decided to divide after a disagreement.
“Janece wondered, ‘what if?'” said Savell. “What if they had gone together on the camp out?”
Sparks fly and a comic-drama is born; a show that, according to Savell, opens a platform for otherwise difficult conversations.
“We need to have a conversation about race,” she said. “What I love about this play is that it gives us a jumping-off point to talk together. To learn and listen. To find out what we don’t know.”
Following performances, attendees are invited to participate in a question-and-answer session with the actors and the director.
