Regent University Hosts Career Hiring Event for Hampton Roads Community
As attendance is at an all-time high with the surge of new students enrolling in Regent University’s new academic concentrations and certificate programs, its roster of faculty and staff members is growing as well.
In an effort to serve these new and inquiring students, in late August, Regent hosted its on-campus Career Hiring Event. The two-day event brought nearly 200 individuals from the Hampton Roads community for job interviews and training that will help the university keep up with significant enrollment growth.
“Our student population has grown from around 6,000 last year to more than 7,200 this fall, and we’re expecting more growth in the future in response to new programs and degree offerings that are being introduced,” said Martha Smith, vice president for Human Resources and Administration.
According to Smith, with this growth of students comes the search for employees who reflect the same workplace values like, “excellence, innovation and integrity.”
And the charge remains the same for enrolling students.
“We are committed to educating more Christian Leaders to change the world than ever before in our university’s history,” said Heidi Cece, executive director of University Admissions. “To fulfill that mission, we need more professional staff to serve as enrollment counselors, financial aid counselors and academic advisors to meet the needs of our growing population of new Regent students.”
Cece has worked for the university for more than a decade, and explained that the on-paper benefits of being a Regent employee – like the tuition remission for full-time Regent employees and the “oasis” the campus gives to the community – all pale in comparison to the experience of working for a university committed to its calling.
“There is something about the community here that’s very entrepreneurial, cutting-edge and fast-paced but simultaneously family-oriented,” said Cece. “But above all, we’re committed to serving the Lord in our work.”
For Cece, the event highlighted the enthusiasm Regent’s growth has spurred within the community – and she continues to work to find candidates who carry that same spirit in their work.
“We’re committed to finding the right team members to join us in this exciting time in our history,” said Cece. “We’re committed to doing some big things to get ready to best serve our students. It’s a great time to be here, as an employee or a student.”
