CAS Cinema-TV Students Place Second in National 24 Hour Competition
Regent undergrad students took second place in a National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) 24 hour digital video challenge (24DV). It’s the first time students from the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) have entered the competition, and their professors are not surprised they did well. They returned from Nashville, Tenn. with a sense of accomplishment and a few new professional contacts.
“They’re just very typical of the type of students we produce,” said Dr. Pete Fraser, chair of CAS Communication & the Arts. “They have a good attitude, they understand the fundamentals of filmmaking, and are well-coached and professional in their understanding of industry standards. They are really committed and polite. We work hard on character as well as product. Often-times film sets can be very stressful places. We’ve tried to teach our students how to be servant professionals in this industry. It plays extremely well and you get a better product.”
Students faced stress, suspense and no sleep in the competition. They arrived later than they planned after their flight to Nashville was delayed. They began setting up, acting and shooting at 9:45 p.m. the evening of the challenge, and raced to turn their final product in to judges just one minute before the deadline.
