Chief Chris A. Mitchell Sr.

Bio

Chief Mitchell is a retired US Navy Senior Enlisted Search and Rescue Aircrewman. His last tour of duty, he served as the Command Masterchief for the Naval Air Technical Training Center (NATTC) in Pensacola Florida. He was responsible for the welfare, conduct and training of approximately 5000 active duty staff personnel, Aviation Support Sailors and Marines. Retiring from active duty in 2000, he began serving our campus community in 2002 as a security officer for the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN). He was reassigned to our Chancellor, Dr. Robertson’s protective services detail due to his military training and leadership. Chief Mitchell served as the Deputy Director of the Security department and Manager of the Protective Services Division.

In the summer of 2006, Chief Mitchell was promoted to the Director of Public Safety and subsequently to his current role as Chief of Police in 2007. Chief Mitchell remains responsible for the implementation, training and development as well daily operations of the CBN/Regent University Police department since its inception in 2007. Under his leadership the department has continued to develop and has been recognized by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). Chief Mitchell continues to serve as the Detail Leader for both the Chancellor of Regent and the CEO of CBN.

As a result of changes in the Virginia code, the police department staff employment was transferred to Regent University in 2021. Chief Mitchell served CBN as Vice-President/Chief of Police and now has been appointed as a Vice President for Regent University. Chief Mitchell is dedicated to serve and protect our court ordered campus jurisdiction. His heart for our community remains evident in his commitment to ensure the best possible policing services are provided to our campus. Regent University was voted the #1 safest campuses in Virginia for 2021. Chief Mitchell is committed to his faith in Jesus Christ and the mission and vision of Regent as well CBN. His service to the Chancellor/Chairman and his family has been a distinct honor. He is devoted to community policing, with the highest integrity and professional ethics. Chief Mitchell and his wife of 42 years reside in Chesapeake Virginia.
